Privacy Policy
Backlot has no account, no analytics and no tracking. Your library, watch history and Plex token stay on your Mac.
What Backlot stores on your device
Your library index, artwork cache, tags, watch history and settings are kept locally on your Mac, in Backlot's own folder in your Library and in the macOS keychain (your Plex token, trial start date and licence key). None of it is sent to us.
What leaves your device
- Your Plex server and plex.tv. When you sign in with Plex, Backlot talks directly to plex.tv and to your server, exactly as the Plex app would. Plex's privacy policy covers that.
- Metadata lookups. For local folders, Backlot fetches titles, posters and episode lists from public metadata services (TVmaze and Cinemeta). Those requests include the title being looked up and your IP address, like any web request, and nothing else.
- Update checks. Backlot fetches a small file from this website to see whether a newer version exists. We don't log who checks.
- Licence activation. When you enter a licence key, Backlot sends the key and your Mac's name to our licence server to confirm it. We keep the key, the activation time and that Mac name so you can reactivate later. We don't collect anything else from the app.
What we collect when you buy
Checkout is handled by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle collects your email, payment details and billing country to process the order and handle sales tax, and shares your email and order details with us so we can send your licence key and answer support requests. Paddle's privacy policy applies to the payment itself. We never see your card number.
We email you your licence key and reply to messages you send us. We don't send marketing email and we don't share your address with anyone.
This website
This site is static and hosted by Netlify. It sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts. Netlify keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, pages requested) for a short period under its own privacy policy.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you (it's your email and order record), ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email thomas@lostnfoundmedia.com. Deleting your record means we can't re-send a lost licence key, so we'll confirm before we do it.
Children
Backlot is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top of this page.
